You've got to love a chorus that goes Ba De Ya. Earth Wind & Fire sang about dancing in September when, according to them, there never was a cloudy day. A little wide of the mark given the past week but a great song nonetheless. Anyway, September in this house is all about early mornings rather than dancing now that Eldest Boy catches a bus to school that leaves just after 7am (yes, really). Even made up a batch of granola for the first time ever, in the hope of making the early starts slightly less painful. To be honest, I'm looking forward to getting this first week over. Only then will there be dancing. In the kitchen. Glass in hand. Ba De Ya.
Current white in the fridge: Adega de Pegoes Colheita 2014, £6.75, The Wine Society
Lovely, peachy white from a region just below Lisbon in Portugal. It's made from a mash up of Verdelho, Chardonnay and two other local grapes, then aged for a bit in oak. That gives it weight and spice, which makes the whole thing feel more robust. In other words, more September-y. You have to be a member of the Wine Society to order it, but a one-off membership fee of £40 makes it worthwhile (and a great present).
Current red in the rack: Wolf Blass Yellow Label Malbec 2013, £9.99, Morrisons
Years ago, I remember ordering a bottle of Yellow Label in a restaurant and loving the gorgeous bramble flavours of what was inside. It was delicious, affordable and crucially, because of the bright yellow label, I was able to remember it the next time I went into a shop. Always good. But this is the first time I've tried their Malbec. Properly plummy, with lots of grip (aka tannins), it's another good one to see in September. Just add meat.
